Review: Parissa Wax Strips - Legs and Body

I am typically not a cheapo when it comes to beauty-related things, as most of you can probably deduce. I do not shy away from spending money on hair cuts, or expensive makeup, or expensive face products, or whatever have you. But when it comes to waxing? I would much rather save myself the expense and do it myself. Not that I'm super hairy and would need to get it done often at the salon anyway, but I would much rather spend my waxing $$$ on some new makeup instead of getting my hair ripped out of its follicles by a no-nonsense esthetician.
Now, a couple of weeks ago I was on a mission to find a waxing kit, with good old-fashioned wax and strips. However, at my local Wal Mart, there wasn't a SINGLE kit to be found, so... to my chagrin, I had to go with waxing strips.

I will let it be known now that I am not a fan of waxing strips. I hate having to heat them up in my hands. I hate having to go over areas because it missed hair. I would much rather make trips to the microwave to heat the wax. BUT, since this was my only option at the time, and since it was a Parissa product, I figured that I might have better luck.

7 products I would bring to a desert island.

So I figured that I would kick-start my blog back up with a post that talks about my holy grails. Basically, 7 products that I would bring to a desert island, should I have the space and room to haul all of the crap that keeps me looking my best.

You might suspect that these products would probably fill up a large suitcase all by themselves, but I have found that I am actually a tough customer. I mean, I buy new products very frequently, but it's rare that I stay loyal to them for long unless they are truly AMAZING. I have yet to find a holy grail mascara, for example, and I have been wearing it since I was twelve.

Alas, the holy grains that I HAVE found...

Another tentative venture into blogging?

Why HELLO. You know that phenomenon where you start things with the best of intentions, only to fall off the bandwagon? That has been me with this blog. I started it with the absolute best of intentions, only to stop when life threw obstacles my way.

First it was two jobs. Then it was my last semester of school. Seeing as how I could have realistically juggled school and a blog throughout the rest of my university career, I figured that this would be a similar situation.

NOPE. WRONG, on all accounts. My last semester of school was the most stressful of my entire university career. I was taking a translation course that totally sucked up a CRAP TON of time, therefore leaving me with a choice -- did I want to blog using what little free time I had, or did I want to watch dramas?

You can all deduce which option I went with.

But, now that I have a newly minted university degree is possession and will not be working two jobs any time soon, I hope to actually breathe life into this blog again. And hopefully these will not be empty words. I definitely have lots to post about, it's just actually getting myself to DO IT that's another issue! So, here goes. Second time around.

This blog is alive!

SO, I dropped off the face of the map after making relatively few posts. I know, I know. It really did make me feel guilty. My excuse? WORK. Since the beginning of October I have been working six days a week, leaving me very little time for myself, let alone blogging or DOING THINGS that would create blogging fodder (ie: cooking, watching dramas, experimenting with new products... basically everything that this blog is based on, yup). Then I took a supervisor position at my day job, which meant more stress, more exhaustion, more hours... you get the picture. However, now that I am down to one job, and will be back to being a jobless student in a matter of about a week and a half, I plan to start blogging again! Hopefully I can actually keep it up this time!

So, what relatively few readers I have, wait for it! I will be back in no time with some "exciting" New Years posts. Maybe even with a couple of posts reviewing a few of the new products that I have picked up over the past few months... :)

Till then, I hope that you all have a happy holidays. Can't believe that Christmas is this weekend. Crazyyy.

September Favourites

Andddd... another month is gone. Where is time going!? It seems like just yesterday I was basking in the glow of early summer, and now here we are getting into the throes of fall. Cold temperatures, shorter days... barf.

This September was unseasonably warm here, though, so I can't complain. The leaves have barely started to turn, which is both amazing (because it has fooled me into thinking that summer is not over!) and slightly disconcerting. I mean, it is pretty much October -- you would think that we would be seeing at least a little yellow and red!

But anyway, September favourites. I need to stop yammering on about the weather and, let's face it, crap that you guys could probably care less about ;)

Fall Recipes: Pumpkin Pull-Apart Bread

With working full time, I haven't exactly had as much time as I would like to try out new recipes as well as blog here! By the time I get home it is dinner time, and I would rather relax than dirty up a whole bunch of dishes.

Alas, days off are my only days to bake, and usually my only days to update (today is an exception; I work the late shift and do not go into work until five. Yay?). Last Wednesday was pretty rainy and a day that I happened to have off, so I figured that trying out a new recipe was an excellent idea!

Pumpkin Pull-Apart bread. With butter rum glaze. Yes, it is every bit as delicious as it sounds.

Nail Polish Review - Nars Night Rider & OPI's DS Magic

I am a self-professed nail polish junkie. My history with it has been somewhat conflicted -- as a child and a preteen, I loved the stuff. My first ever nail polish was a Tinkerbell peel-off kind, which I lovingly painted on to my nails with utmost care, only to peel it off a couple of hours later. Then I went through a no-nail polish stage, where I think I owned maybe one bottle that I shared with my mom. Over the years, that one bottle slowly became four or five, until a little over a year ago. Soon I found myself slinking over to the nail polish display in drugstores. Stopping dead in my tracks and turning around whenever I passed a salon. Finished my midterms? Reward myself with a new bottle. Having a crappy day? Make myself feel better with a pretty new shade. Got an A+ on an important paper? Yay, new nail polish!

Now that I am taking a break from school and working full time, I don't feel that I need an excuse (haha), and I am also more willing to splurge! Hence the reason why I am reviewing these two polishes. Both have price tags that are a far cry from your average Sally Hansen or Revlon polish, but does the quality make them worth it?
